Exquisite black Murano glass centerpiece with a "Scavo" finish, designed by Alfredo Barbini around the 1980s.
The "Scavo" technique is achieved by applying chemicals to the surface of the glass, giving it a rough, black iron oxide finish with subtle iridescence. This creates the same corroded and aged appearance as ancient archaeological glass pieces buried underground for centuries and found during excavations.
This piece undoubtedly reflects the excellent technique and craftsmanship of the renowned Italian glassmaker.
Barbini label on the top and signed "Barbini Murano" on the base.
